Really, really nice headphones (ear buds, actually) make a big difference.
Just sayin'.

Spending extra cash on quality headpones is a must, just like going the extra mile for good car speakers. Too many people put in nice decks, but leave the factory speakers in. It's amazing how big a difference it makes putting in even moderately priced speakers can make.
As for the 'phones, I've got a small pair of Sennheisers I could not be happier with (over the ear, active noise cancelling). For ear buds I've got a pair of Shures that are fantastic. And since a great deal of listening time at home is through the 'phones (those of you married to less than enthusiastic partners will understand), having quality reproduction is a must.

These are the best cheap headphones you can buy with a lifetime guarantee (I'm on my 2nd pair). Perhaps not as good as the expensive ones you referenced, but they sound pretty amazing to me.

I've also had Koss in the past that I've been very happy with. Very good value. On the ones I have now, they aren't as much as the Bose; in fact considerably less. Maybe not quite as good overall, but still outstanding.

The best ear buds I ever tried are the Sennheiser IE8 but they cost a fortune.

Great thread, gang. I've been using the earbuds that came with my iPod and have been thinking about upgrading.

My wife gets tired of hearing the Dead all the time, yet she also complains when I put my headphones in. Can't win!!

I really like the Shure Pro 240s I have now. they're old style over the the ear and the seperation of stereo is pretty good. I gave up on the foamy ones long ago.I like being in my own world w/ music and just music.I've seen the adds for Bose and I know this is not really a gear head site but their stuff is way overpriced for what you get...LW

Sennheisers- EH 150. Over the ear and make me look like a dork? I don't know because I can't see myself with them on. Do I care? I care that these reasonably priced headphones are great and help me drown out the noise at work for quality music listening. Just the thing for turning Phil Up or listening to a fantastic stand alone Scarlet or an early 12 minute Bird Song... Happy vibes to rock the cochlea.

Isn't the S4 a Klipsch and not a Bose?

No, the box says IE2. I treated myself, I just went to Best Buy and asked which ones are the very best? and bought those.

I was using good ones before and then cheap ones and I understand now good ones are better LOL.

I liked the sound of the Bose, i just had troubles with the earbuds staying in my ears and i kept losing the part that goes in your ear. I ended up switching to the Klipsch.
